“The Sick Doll” These posters were printed for children`s educational and story telling tools in England. At the bottom is printed the number 7. There were over 75 posters in the series all with different themes or places. This one with the theme of playing nurse and doctor with a doll and pet cats in the nursery. On the wall are 3 large decorative prints of a Golliwog, Old King Cole, and Humpty Dumpty.
The “Golliwogg” (later “Golliwog”) is a rag doll and controversial children`s literary character created by Florence Kate Upton in the late 19th century, and was reportedly inspired by a blackface minstrel doll which Upton found as a child in her aunt’s attic in London. The poster has a running edge on bottom of beautiful white cats. Beautiful early litho pre WWII design, and in beautiful condition. A great poster for the antique doll collector. The poster is archivally linen backed and ready for framing. We only have this one.
Size: 13 × 13.25 inches
