Antique Albany NY Architecture Poster
Poster text on bottom: "Pinkster Hill, St. Mary's Church, 1797. The First Catholic Church in Albany. From original painting in possession of Colonel Thomas Barry, New York, The Donaldson Litho Co, Cincinatti, Ohio.
This is a wonderful horizontal pictorial image of Albany NY architectural, Saint Mary's Church. It’s charming, linen mounted in A condition, and a wonderful gift for someone who loves the beautiful Albany area historically, or is immersed in church history.
The rich and interesting history of the church can be found online here and here. This important church was the oldest Catholic congregation in all of upstate New York, on Capitol Hill in Albany. The poster depicts a beautiful scene of early buildings and early Albany architectural images, circa 1797, from an original oil painting.
The printer, Donaldson Litho began as a small lithography business in Cincinnati in 1863, and with great success, was officially incorporated as the Donaldson Lithograph Co. in 1883. The company moved to the City of Newport, Kentucky in 1898, thus this poster was printed on the early presses, in stunning early stone lithography. The lithography of this company was well known for its American minstrel, circus, magician and magic and American advertising posters, as well as their lithography work on iron, tin, glass and other metals.
This is a beautiful and rare piece we have not seen before in our travels. We only have this one, a beauty, and uncommon.
