1940's Java Buddhist Vintage Poster of Borobudur Monument
This is a beautiful small almost square travel poster from the forties for Java Borobudur,
and states it is "One of the world's finest Buddhistic Monuments." Printed on bottom is also the text:
"For Info Apply to your local Passenger Agencies or Travel Bureaus or to the Travellers Official Information
Bureau of the Netherland Indies, 15 Rijswijk Batavia-C Java, N.I. The Dutch East Indies, or Netherlands East Indies,
was the Dutch colony that became what we know as modern Indonesia after WWII, World War II.It was formed
from the colonies of the early Dutch East India Company under sovereign of the Netherlands in 1800.
Following the military World War II Japanese occupation, Indonesian nationalists declared Indonesian
as independent in 1945. After the Indonesian National Revolution, the Netherlands formally
declared Indonesian sovereignty in December 1949.This poster is a beautiful piece of history and uncommon.

NOTE: This Mexican poster is in excellent condition. It depicts a detail of the mural called
The Totonac Civilization which is in the National Palace in Mexico City. The Mural was created by
Diego Rivera. Diego Rivera created paintings and murals on Mexican history, folk art, the discoveries of
archeology and other sciences. He was very well know also working for a period in the United States
as a WPA artist. He married Frida Kahlo. This poster was produced to encourage travel to Mexico
in the 1950's. Absolutely beautiful and ready for framing!

Stan Galli was born in 1912 and was a California graphic artist and
illustrator for True, Country Gentleman, Sports Afield, Saturday Evening Post,
Readers Digest, Weyerhaueser Timber, paintings for United Airlines
(travel posters in the 1950-60's as seen here), General Motors, Pacific Telephone,
Chicago Bridge and Iron, and the Seattle Times. This is a beautiful image of a priest
at a mission in Southern California, feeding the birds. Southern California
encompasses Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Riverside. Galli's posters
have become very collectible and desirable. A stunningly beautiful United airline poster,

NOTE: American rail posters are rare, especially the one sheet travel size.
This vintage rail travel poster is a Railroad poster for the
Chespeake & Ohio railroad, stopping in Richmond, Virginia.
It is clean and in excellent condition. The figures depicted
in the poster are sporting modern clothing and art deco design.
This poster has an architectural feel to it. From wiki article:
The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) was a Class I
railroad formed in 1869 in Virginia from many smaller
railroads begun in the 19th century. Tapping the coal
reserves of West Virginia, it formed the basis for the
City of Newport News and the coal piers on Hampton Roads,
and forged a rail link to the midwest, eventually reaching
Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo in Ohio and Chicago, Illinois.
Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, in 1972 it became
part of the Chessie System, along with the Baltimore and Ohio
and Western Maryland Railway. In 1980, the Chessie system
combined with Seaboard Coast Line Industries to form CSX Corporation,
which by 1987 had merged all its railroad subsidiaries into CSX Transportation,
one of seven Class I railroads operating in North America at the beginning
of the 21st century. The C&O itself disappeared in a merger into CSX on September 2, 1987.
The city of Huntington, West Virginia, is named for one of its early leaders,

NOTE: This poster is a wonderful historical piece to have in our collection,
since Yugoslavia no longer exists as Yugoslavia by name, now Croatia.
It"s playful design is artistic depicting the resort town of Sveti Stefan Montenegro,
a seaside island. The poster image depicted with boats sailing near a small hillside village.
Note from Wiki: Sveti Stefan is a seaside resort located 5 km southeast of Budva,
on the Budva Riviera. It used to be an island, but is now permanently connected
to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. Sveti Stefan was inhabited in 15th century
as a fisherman"s village. In 1950s last residents of the village were evicted, and
Sveti Stefan was transformed into a luxury town-hotel. It is the most exclusive
resort on the Montenegro coast. Beautiful and unusual!

differnt cartoon scenes and humorous Americana sayings and drawings. It includes some of
Paul Bunyan's friends, Sourdough Sam, Shot Gunderson, Johnny Inkslinger, Big Ole, Chris Crosshaul
etc and a great thirties deco type WPA era view of America, with typography and icons of the time.
The United States map depicts some of Bunyan's deeds and Exploits. The title of the map is
"Paul Bunyan, America's only Folk Lore Character, Paul Bunyan's Pictorial Map of the United States,
depicting some of his deeds and exploits by R.R. Handy". Note:In 1937, R.D. handy published a book entitled
"Paul Bunyan and his Big Blue Ox : stories and pictures of the lumberjack hero of American folk lore "
by R. D. Handy. Published in Chicago by Rand McNally & Company, 1937, has 64 pages , illustrated.
The Text pages alternate with line drawn panels, of which many with word balloons. -- Art is signed "R.D. Handy" or "R.D.H.".
This poster is fun, crazy, would be great in a kids room or folk art Americans setting.
It has alot of the same look of Jo Mora type illustrative work. It is in excellent A+ condition, linen mounted.

It is said to be the biggest castle in the world with its history stretching back to the
8th century. The St Vitus Cathedral is located in the castle area and can be seen in the poster,
as well as an aquaduct, bridges, and the city. The artist signature is Terek.

Its simple but strong design is by the artist Guerrini, and helps us recall
the architectural beauty found all throughout Italy. Mantova, located in the
Lombardia northern region of Italy, is also referred to as Mantua. Noted for its
palaces, churches, and castles and literature festivals. Many past literary greats
have lived or worked in this region. It is capital of the province of the same name.
Mantua is surrounded by artificial lakes created during the 12th century.
Mantua is mentioned in William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo leaves Mantua and returns to Verona when he hears that Juliet, has died.

This Kauffer poster has restoration at the four corners and in the borders.
This is a beautiful poster worth saving, and by a noted American artist. Expert restoration
and displays beautifully, but does have repaired edge patches in the white borders on each side.
Note: E. McKnight Kauffer was born in the United States and settled in England in 1914.
He was employed as an artist by the London Transport Board and for the Great Western Railway.
Kauffer designed posters for government agencies during World War II. After the war, he worked for
American Airlines and contiued with illustrations. Here is one of his posters for Pan American Airlines.
It features Mexican attributes, a girl with a rooster in her hand, very art deco!

NOTE: This wonderful dramatic poster is a Chemin de Fer poster, which means "Road of Iron",
printed for the French railroad or Railway. French railroad posters are some of the more beautful
of the travel posters and often done by important artists. It was printed in France by the
French National Railways. It has designated logos on either side of the text "Rouen",
It reads Chemins de fer and Syndicat D'initiative. Bottom left reads Albane Court. This impressive
building is in Rouen France. Rouen was occupied by England 1418-1449 and is the site of the trial &
execution of Joan of Arc 1431. Rouen is also the site of famous 13th century Gothic cathedral.
Today it is the home of the Joan of Arc Museum. This poster depicts the fine art work of the

Artist: Signed Olof Olson. NOTE: On the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939,
The Stockholm Steamship Company owned 58 ships and operated 22 regular routes.
They lost several ships, but were able to purchase others, and by 1943 owned 62 vessels.
However, they were forced to surrender 25 ships, including their newest and best, to the
Soviet Union as reparations after the end of the war. New ships were built and others
purchased and by 1958 the number of ships owned was 55. Cargo services were
operated to most European countries as well as the east coast of North America.
The actual passenger routes ran between Turku - Stockholm, Helsinki - Stockholm, Helsinki -

Boulder Dam (renamed Hoover Dam after President Hoover), is one of the engineering
marvels of the world built by FDR Roosevelt in the depression era, new deal era and WPA era.

This wonderful 1940 American art deco poster shows us all types of plant and animal
life around the world. We see whales, star fish, dolphins, monkeys, birds and many more.
A great educational piece for a children's room, or for a California lover, or even a map lover.
This artist of this poster is worth noting: José Miguel Covarrubias (1904-1957) was a
Mexican painter and muralist. His works and celebrity caricatures have been featured in
The New Yorker and Vanity Fair magazines. He worked during the American Works Project Administration (WPA)
of the FDR Roosevelt's Depression era. He was commissioned to paint eight pictorial murals for
Pacific House for the two years of the 1939-40 World's Fair (Golden Gate International Exposition),
which happened at the same time as the 1939-40 new York World's fair. Five of the original murals
survive and are displayed at the World Trade Center in the San Francisco Ferry Building.

framed under glass. A rare piece. NOTE: This wonderful scene of the Grand Canyon depicted in this
poster that was put out for Santa Fe Railway is a beauty. Text reads "Santa Fe Pullmans to the rim the
only Railroad to the park". Earth's Scenic Wonder the Grand Canyon is depicted here in a
photographic style graphic. Santa Fe Rail was first chartered in February 1859. Although the railway
was named in part for the capital of New Mexico, its main line never reached there as the terrain made
it too difficult to lay the necessary tracks. The Santa Fe's first tracks reached the Kansas / Colorado
state line in 1873, and connected to Pueblo, Colorado in 1876. Here we see it going all the
way west to California. Beautiful and ready for framing!

DC Feb 3-7th 1936. The small printing in the digital photo may be too small to read. Included
in the text are numbers with each animal listed, as in snow goose, Pin tail sprig, ducks, doves,
wilson snipe, jack snipe, deer, hens, quail, grouse, pheasent, hunt birds, rabbits, hawk, salmon,
turkey and others. Corresponding numbers can be faintly found near the animal in the picture.

The same year this poster was produced by Robert Spreng, another artist John Heartfield used
photomontage for political propaganda in Germany in his work entitled "The Meaning of the Hitler Salute"
(November, 1932). In this American/Swiss poster depicted is the Graf Zeppelin and small bi-plane which add an
industrial feel to the design. In small print on the Graf Zeplin image reads, Graf Zeplin, +D-LZ127.
