NOTE: This poster was printed to promote the American literary magazine called Century.
The Century Magazine was a monthly popular magazine published in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Century Magazine began publication in 1881, as a successor to Scribner's Monthly Magazine.
It ceased publication in 1930. A literary magazine is a periodical devoted to literature in a broad sense.
Literary magazines usually publish short stories, poetry and essays along with literary criticism,
book reviews, biographical profiles of authors, interviews and letters. Literary magazines first began to
appear in the early part of the 19th century, mirroring an overall rise in the number of books,
magazines and scholarly journals being published at that time. There were a number of literary
magazines in Europe (especially in England and Russia) and the United States. Even though
many of these magazines were not necessarily entirely literary in content and most had a short
lifespan. Each month, a poster would be printed as a promotional, this one, the month of May and the
crowning of a Russian czar. Beautiful and ready for framing!

1885 Harpers American Literary Magazine Poster by Edward Penfield

NOTE: Harper’s Magazine was first created in June 1850,by the book publishing firm
Harper & Brothers. The first press run of 7,500 copies sold out immediately, and within
six months circulation had reached 50,000. The earliest issues consisted largely of
material that had already been published in England and soon after, the magazine
began printing the the work of American artists and writers. One of those artists was
Edward Penfield the designer of this poster. His signature varies throughout time
and can be seen here printed in the plate at the bottom right of the poster.
Featured for the month of October is this hunting with rifle theme with two rabbits.
The hunter is reading harper's of course and ignoring his game! A condition,
very beautiful and ready to be framed! A rare original American piece.

NOTE: This is a beautiful turn of the last century, American literary art poster listing Richard Wagner
(1813-1883) famous opera's such as Rienzi, Flying Dutchman, Tannhauser, Lohengrin, Tristan & Ysolde.
This smaller format was the first American art poster, and was utilized to advertise weekly publications.
The publication the poster advertises was and article by Helene Adeline Guerber, and called "Stories of the Wagner Opera"
It features a classical nude woman with musical harp, German or Germany castle in background. It is a deep red/orange
and black printed on old yellow oatmeal paper, signed HURD, lower left. A beautiful and rare early American advertising,
literary and opera piece.

NOTE: A wonderful elegant American piece designed by the talented illustrator; Edward Penfield.
Harper's Magazine was first created in June 1850 by the book publishing firm Harper & Brothers.
The earliest issues consisted largely of published England or English material and soon after, the
magazine printed the work of American artists, illustrators and writers. One of those artists was
Edward Penfield, a very well known designer of this poster. Penfield was born 1866 and died in1925.
In 1894 he produced a series of monthly images for Harper's magazine. His style was influenced by
Japanese prints, hand-craftsmanship of the Arts and Crafts movement, and the impressionistic
approach of Paris France French poster making elements. Penfield's signature is printed on this
poster at the bottom right. Rare, beautiful and ready for framing!

1920-30's King Cole Tea Advertising Poster
This is a beautiful, A condition, linen mounted art deco advertising poster for
King Cole tea. We found evidence and history of this tea online, produced by the
Barbour Company (or Barbour's, Barbours) in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada
from the 1920-the 1960's. It features 3 people in front of an idyllic mountain range,
lake and sail boat, sailboat, boating or boat scene, sipping their tea. They are all dressed
in beautiful vintage clothing in very vibrant and vivid colors. We were lucky enough to buy 5
of these posters years ago, and just found them in our inventory.
Size: 24 x 27 inches, almost square. Vintage tea posters or antique tea posters are
desirable as they are wonderful for a kitchen, coffeehouse or restaurant and hard to find.

NOTE: This beautifully printed poster was designed by a well known
artist NC Wyeth. Newell Convers Wyeth (1882–1945) was an American artist
and illustrator. In 1911 he painted a series of illustrations for an edition of the book,
Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson. He illustrated editions of The Yearling,
The White Company, Robinson Crusoe, The Last of the Mohicans, Kidnapped (1937),
and Robin Hood. He also illustrated for the American literary magazine, Scribner's.
NC Wyeth is the father of artists Andrew Wyeth, Henriette Wyeth and Carolyn Wyeth,
and is the grandfather of artist Jamie Wyeth. In the bottom border we see printed
1732-1932 to Commemorate the 200th Anniversary of George Washington.
Also printed are the words "Whose magnificent achievements in spite of pessimism
and indifferent should ever prove an inpiration to American courage and confidence."
A wonderful American Advertising piece, as well as historical poster.
The Wyeth artwork is stunning, he is known as one of the best known
American illustrators. Beautiful!

Distributors Kansas City, Missouri, MO. The poster promotes observation.
These posters may have been directed toward youth education. This was put
out during the WPA years, depression era in the US to further the incentive
of children during tough times. It was first published in 1929 during the
fall of wall street, and then again in 1937. This humorous American
incentive poster has a direct message. Are you going through
life blindfolded? Blind Man's Bluff is a nice game but who want
to be "it" always? Wonderfully printed and graphically well
designed during the FDR Franklin Roosevelt period of American History.

edition were Mary Roberts Rinehart, Somerset Maugham, Patterson McNutt,
Brooke Hanlon and stories were Ambassador Bullitt: He Rose from the Dead.
